Online EMDR therapy is often helpful when you understand what you want to do differently, but something in the moment gets in the way. This can show up as freezing in high-stakes conversations, over-explaining, avoiding decisions, or feeling a level of shame or doubt that doesn’t match the situation.

In these moments, your nervous system may be responding to earlier experiences that are still active in the present. EMDR therapy focuses on identifying and reprocessing those experiences so they no longer drive your responses, allowing you to think clearly and respond in a way that reflects your current goals and capabilities.

How EMDR Therapy Works

EMDR therapy works by targeting the experiences that continue to influence how you respond in the present. These are often moments where something felt overwhelming, threatening, or unresolved at the time, and your system adapted in a way that made sense then but no longer fits your current environment.

During EMDR, we identify specific memories, beliefs, and situations that connect to the patterns you are noticing now. The goal is not to analyze them in depth, but to help your brain process them in a way that reduces their intensity and impact.

As that processing occurs, people often notice changes such as less reactivity in high-pressure situations, fewer automatic responses like avoidance or over-explaining, and more ability to stay present and make decisions without the same internal interference.


The Clients I See Most Often

Many of the clients I work with are entrepreneurs, executives, and other high-performing professionals. On the surface, things are going well. They’re capable, thoughtful, and often already doing solid work in coaching or personal development.

Where things tend to get stuck is in specific moments, such as important conversations, decisions involving money or authority, or situations involving a power dynamic. This is where patterns like over-explaining, hesitation, avoidance, or a sudden drop in confidence tend to show up.

Some clients are also noticing ways they cope with that pressure. This might look like overworking, difficulty stepping away from work, or using alcohol or other behaviors to take the edge off after the day ends. These patterns usually make sense in context, but over time they start to create their own set of problems.

I also work with clients who are coming in with more clearly defined trauma histories, including PTSD, complex trauma, or specific past events that continue to affect how they respond in the present.

In all of these cases, the focus of the work is the same. We identify the experiences that are still influencing current responses, and use EMDR to help your system process them so they no longer show up in the same way.

How EMDR Is Used in This Work

We start by getting a clear understanding of what is happening now and what you want to be different. This includes identifying the situations where patterns show up, the beliefs connected to them, and the experiences that may be contributing.

Before beginning EMDR, there is a preparation phase. During this time, you will learn how EMDR works and build the skills needed to stay grounded and present during the process. Depending on your needs, I may also integrate elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you understand and work with different parts of your experience.

Once we begin EMDR, we focus on specific targets. These might be past experiences, recent situations, or anticipated future events that tend to trigger a familiar response. The goal is to help your brain process these experiences so they no longer carry the same intensity or lead to the same automatic reactions.

Over time, clients often notice that situations which previously led to hesitation, over-explaining, or avoidance begin to feel more manageable. There is typically more space to think, respond, and make decisions without the same level of internal interference.

Logistics and Structure

All sessions are conducted via secure telehealth. I work with clients located in California, and also provide services in Nevada and Idaho in accordance with state licensure and registration requirements.

We meet on a weekly basis at the start of treatment to support consistency and momentum. Sessions are 50 minutes long. After the initial phase of treatment, we can adjust frequency based on your progress and goals.

The first few sessions are focused on understanding your history, identifying treatment goals, and developing a clear plan for the work. Before beginning EMDR processing, there is a preparation phase where you will learn how the process works and build the skills needed to stay grounded during sessions. The length of this phase depends on your needs, and we move at a pace that allows the work to be effective and manageable.
