You can’t sleep.

Sometimes you don’t WANT to sleep, because of the nightmares.  You feel detached, numb.  Sometimes you even feel ashamed of what’s happened to you and that you’ll never be able to get over it.

You might even be having flashbacks. Most of the time you don’t even think about them.  Those things you wish never happened.  You cringe when it comes up in your mind.  Sometimes you even feel shameful, like all of it was your fault.  You don’t want it to define you, but it does.  You hesitate to say it out loud because then it becomes more real and you want it to stay in the past.  If you never talk about it, it’s like it never happened.

Your PTSD Symptoms Are Increasing

Except now, for some reason, it keeps coming up.  Things people say, blogs, political discourse, the news, social media . . . they are triggering the past in a way it’s never been before.

You can’t stop thinking about it.

You feel self conscious, like people must know what he did to you. And if they know, they’ll know just how shameful you are. It’s keeping you from being your highest and best self. You know if you could get some healing you would feel lighter, free - but you don’t know how. You don’t even know where to start.

You might have even tried

working on it in therapy in the past but did not find much relief. You feel like you’ve been shattered into pieces and don’t even know how to start putting yourself back together.

My name is Cassandra Cannon and I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, specializing in EMDR therapy and complex cases of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I’m inspired by the ancient Japanese art form, Kintsugi. Rather than looking at a piece of pottery that has been broken as flawed or imperfect, these artists join the pieces together with a lacquer that has been mixed with a precious metal - like silver or gold - to highlight the breakage. You see, rather than disguising the past of the piece, these craftspeople view the breakage as an important part of the piece’s history. They see it as adding value, character and beauty.

You might feel like you can’t put yourself back together again and that’s where I come in. Together, we’ll create a new masterpiece of healing. Your pieces will be joined together with precious metal, honoring your past. You can become a Kintsugi piece, finding beauty in your history - embracing it without judgement or shame and feeling even more valuable, because of all that you have overcome.

Will what you used to see as “flaws” be flaws after all? Or a reminder and representation of your strength and resilience - adding to your value?
